The Mosaic Congregations Collaborative is a national study of how diverse congregations across the United States serve their members and engage their communities.
Why This Project?
Congregations are often the first place people turn in times of need. They provide support, build relationships, and respond to local challenges. Yet we know surprisingly little—especially at a national level—about how different types of congregations are doing this work today.
This project brings together new data to better understand how diverse congregations are:

Why This Matters Now
Communities across the country are facing demographic change and ongoing social tensions. Congregations remain one of the most consistent and trusted institutions in many neighborhoods.
This study helps answer a simple but important question:
How are diverse congregations helping people and communities flourish today — and where are new opportunities emerging?
What Makes This Study Different
Most national studies primarily feature white congregations with few Black, Latine, and Asian congregations.
This project includes a broad and diverse sample of:
- Asian congregations
- Black congregations
- Latine congregations
- Multiracial congregations
- White congregations
This allows for a more complete picture of religious life in the United States.
